In his new work 5 Arrows, Christopher Gurusamy is accompanied by an ensemble of live musicians, in an improvised and contemporised performance in which he recontextualises his dance theatre practice to chronicle love, lust and longing based on an iconic Carnatic musical composition ‘Mohamana’.
Based between Sydney and Chennai, Christopher is one of the trailblazer dancers of his generation in Bharata Natyam having performed works extensively within India and globally. He has emerged as one of the most popular and critically acclaimed Bharata Natyam soloists in the world.
Last year, Christopher’s work Ānanda: Dance of Joy presented in Sydney, Melbourne and Mumbai received critical acclaim including a 4-star review in The Age, and has been nominated for Melbourne’s Green Room Awards in the Outstanding Performer category.
