At the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham commencing today 28 July, India will be represented by 205 athletes, competing in 15 different sports.
With Neeraj Chopra, who was intended to be India’s flag bearer, out of the competition, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has chosen badminton star PV Sindhu and Manpreet Singh, the captain of the men’s hockey team, to step in for the opening ceremony on Friday morning (Australian time).
PV Sindhu, two-time Olympic medalist, Kidambi Srikanth, silver medallist in the World Championship in December 2021 and Lakshya Sen, bronze medallist in the World Championship are some of the star athletes who are competing.
