Apart from the music and dance sequences, there’s something else Bollywood lovers can’t
go without and that’s the iconic film poster. For generations, these movie posters have gone beyond cinema halls to decorate bedrooms, streets, and even made their way to cinema archives.
Earlier this week, eagle-eyed filmgoers took to Twitter to showcase someone many of us
would’ve missed: Bollywood posters featured in other films, sometimes even starring the
same actor!
Twitter user, Pragyan Mohanty, initiated the quirky conversation by sharing a thread of stills
where audiences are treated to movie posters that reference the starred actor’s previous
works.
Captioned ‘A thread on Hindi films where you’d spot the poster of another Hindi film
featuring a cast member’, he showcases several examples from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

The thread then jumps further back in time to the 60s where audiences have spotted more
evidence of Bollywood’s self-love. This includes the moment Shashi Kapoor is captured next
his own poster from Prem Patra (1962) in Yeh Dil Kisko Doon (1963).

Other Twitter users have joined the conversation by sharing some of their own film finds.
This includes more recent examples such as Varun Dhawan’s character in Jugjugg Jeeyo (2022) watching one of the actor’s previous films, Kalank (2019).

Another added a still of Govinda and Karishma Kapoor buying tickets to watch Andaz Apna
Apna (1994) in Coolie No 1. (1995). The fact both actors also appeared in Andaz Apna Apna has left users in splits!

This one always fascinates me. Posters of all the films from the new wave cinema.

This is so impressive, how long did it take to find/collect all these? I also find it really entertaining when actors reference their own songs from previous films or sing a line from another actor’s film song
