Powerhouse in collaboration with Consulate General of India, Sydney and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre will celebrate Diwali with a free program of music, dance and storytelling at Powerhouse Castle Hill on Saturday 26 October.

Diwali is a major cultural event for the Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities which symbolises the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and good over evil.

The full day program will feature a range of cultural activities and events for all-ages, from a Bollywood inspired performance by Nrityam Sydney Dance Studio to Kiyara Dance Academy performing Odissi, an ancient Indian classical dance. Visitors can also join award-winning author Susanne Gervay OAM for a live reading of traditional Diwali stories and create rangoli artworks with Sandhya Srinivasan using coloured powders to symbolise the happiness, positivity and liveliness of the home. Throughout the day, visitors can join curator and community led tours exploring Indian textiles from the Powerhouse Collection.

Powerhouse Chief Executive Lisa Havilah said, ‘We are excited to be partnering with The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre to celebrate Diwali at Powerhouse Castle Hill for the first time
