Kerala Fest 2023 – Brisbane

The United Malayalees of Queensland Inc, an umbrella organisation operating from Brisbane, is organising Kerala Fest 2023 on Saturday 12^th August 2023 during the festival season of Onam. The two key features of the celebration are All Queensland Thiruvathira competition and Vallasadya (grand vegetarian feast).

The highlight of the celebration this year will be a presentation of Mega Thiruvathira dance form with more than 300 participants from across the state. In this dance form, women dance around a lighted lamp (Nilavilakku), clapping their hands in symphony and moving their feet in rhythm with the accompaniment of music in what is regarded as the celebration of womanhood.
