Sai Rohit Paladugu, a 27-year-old student from Andhra Pradesh, died on the spot after his car crashed into a tree in Seymour, Victoria.
Victoria Police believe the car was travelling north on the Goulburn Valley Highway at around 6.15am on November 3 when it left the road and struck a tree near the Hume Freeway interchange.
They are still investigating and are yet to determine what time the collision occurred.
Paladugu was the sole occupant of the car, and it is believed he was on his way to work.
He came to Australia in 2017 to pursue higher studies at Charles Sturt University, and lived in Tarneit.
His family comes from Polakala Yellampally village in Chittoor district.
Friends said Sai Rohit Paladugu was working alongside his studies to help his mother, and to pay off the education loan taken to come to Australia. After the passing of his father, he was the sole bread earner for the family.
The Telugu Association Of Australia has come to the aid of the stricken family, with a GoFundMe campaign that has currently raised nearly $70,000.
“This fundraiser is monetary support for the family during this difficult time and to ease the financial burden on his mum,” the fundraiser states.
Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage of the vehicle to contact Crime Stoppers, or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
